Dr Who is the world's longest running science-fiction series and was first shown on British television in 1963. In 2005 the series was reinvented and relaunched for the twenty-first century and became an overnight ratings success in the UK. Shown on BBC America and Canada's Space Channel, the popularity of the series in North American is on the increase where it attracted record-breaking ratings for BBC America in 2010. The series stars the popular Matt Smith as the Doctor. A new series is due to begin screening in the US in spring.
